A wonderfully romantic late Victorian diamond bow pendant, dating to c. 1890-1900, with approximately 1.10ct of bright and beautifully sparkling old cut diamonds.
The bow has that lovely fluidity found in late 19th-century jewellery, with sweeping open loops, curled ribbon tails and delicate floral-style diamond details above and below. The diamonds are individually set across the silver front, with a larger old cut diamond at the centre and further prominent stones running vertically through the design. They are predominantly old European cuts, with a small number showing more transitional-style faceting, creating a wonderfully lively mixture of antique sparkle.
As was typical of fine diamond jewellery of the period, the pendant has a silver front over a gold reverse: the back tests as approximately 15ct gold, while the diamond-set face is silver. This combination allowed the diamonds to be set against a bright white metal while retaining the richness and strength of gold to the reverse. We have added a simple 18ct gold bail, allowing the pendant to sit beautifully on a fine chain or to be layered amongst other antique pieces.
A particularly pretty example of the enduring bow motif, with a substantial amount of diamond sparkle for its petite size.
